Every single business that we partner with is unique—and so are the risks that are a reality of their day-to-day operations. We tailor our policy coverage to ensure that our clients are protected for their specific needs. The products we offer are outlined below; our agents can review them in detail with you.
Our commercial policy features are meant to protect the financial interests of businesses. They include:
- General Liability
- Workers Compensation
- Business Auto
- Crime/Employee Dishonesty
- Umbrella/Excess Liability
- Management Liability
- Directors & Officers (D&O)
- Errors & Omissions (E&O)
- Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI)
- Marine Insurance
Nine out of ten insurance programs we review have major issues like gaps in coverage, insufficient limits and exclusions that should be removed. When we review your policy, we’ll make these issues clear and work with you to develop remedies.
As with commercial risks, the use of insurance to cover our personal assets is a valuable tool for protecting the lives we’ve worked hard to build. Some common policies used in personal risk management are:
- Condo Owners or Renter’s Policy
- Personal Auto
- Scheduled Coverage (Jewelry, Art, Antiques, etc.)
- Personal Umbrella
Insuring the potential liability and physical damage losses associated with big-ticket personal items like boats, planes, off-road vehicles and RVs should also be a part of your personal risk management plan.

In 2010, Gillis, Ellis & Baker created and established the first Louisiana-based captive insurance company.
What’s that, exactly? That question is best answered by first defining a traditional insurance company – a mechanism whereby the risk of loss to a few is shared by many. Everyone pays in a premium, and the insurance company hopes there is enough money for collective premiums paid to honor or pay the claims that are presented.
A captive insurance company is an insurance company owned by one or more entities, usually formed for the purpose of insuring only their own risks. Because participation in a captive is granted only by other members, the owners of the captive are able to limit entry to companies that operate in a safe manner and meet other criteria established by the captive.
Captives can be homogeneous (members with similar risk exposures) or heterogeneous (members with varied risk exposures). Captives may be owned or organized by individual businesses, industry groups or third parties who package the captive services for the members. GEB is familiar with, and has worked with, all types of captive arrangements.
GEB, through its investment and partnership in Assurex Global, can access the Assurex Global Re Captive on behalf of its clients. We also have access to and relationships with multiple third party captive managers in a wide range of risk groups.
RISK MANAGEMENT & ONGOING SERVICES
The management of risk, which we define as exposure to the chance of injury or loss, is at the core of what we do at GEB. Insurance is a powerful and useful tool, but it is not the sole solution for managing risk. Once understood, risk can be avoided, reduced, eliminated, or transferred. It is a matter of determining which treatment is the most cost-effective and efficient, and managing that treatment for the duration of our client relationships.
Risk presents itself in many ways, and knowledge and planning are necessary to craft a proper strategy for dealing with and responding to risk. The GEB risk management process includes a team of full-time risk managers who create custom risk management programs for each of our clients with the help of our online Risk Management portal.
